Building Surveyor — Yamba & Grafton

Full-time · Yamba & Grafton, NSW · Posted

East Coast Building Consultants is hiring a building surveyor as we expand into Yamba and Grafton in the Clarence Valley. You'll certify residential building work from Construction Certificate to Occupation Certificate, backed by our established Byron Bay and Lismore offices.

About the Role

We need a building surveyor to grow our certification work in Yamba and Grafton. East Coast Building Consultants has certified building work across the Northern Rivers since 2004, and the Clarence Valley is the next part of that patch to get a dedicated, local presence.

The work is mostly residential — new homes, alterations and additions, granny flats, swimming pools — taken from application to completion:

  • Assessing Construction Certificate and Complying Development Certificate applications against the National Construction Code and the development consent
  • Carrying out the mandatory critical-stage inspections through each build
  • Issuing Occupation Certificates once the final inspection passes
  • Working directly with homeowners, owner-builders, builders and designers so problems surface before the clock starts, not after

Why Yamba and Grafton?

We already certify across seven council areas, Clarence Valley among them. Opening in Yamba and Grafton puts a surveyor close to that work rather than driving down from Byron Bay and Lismore — quicker inspections for clients, and someone local who knows the council, the flood planning levels and the coastal and bushfire overlays. You can see the kind of work we do there on our Grafton private certifier page.

Who You'll Be Working With

East Coast Building Consultants is a team of four A3 accredited building certifiers, led by principal certifier Brett Crawford, with offices at 37/5 Easy Street, Byron Bay and 5/70 Woodlark Street, Lismore. We have completed more than 6,000 inspections, and our caseload runs from bushfire-prone single dwellings to award-winning architect-designed homes — see recent projects.

What We Offer

  • Attractive salary package
  • Company car, laptop and iPad
  • Training and CPD included
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Supportive team environment
  • Future profit-share opportunities

What You'll Bring

  • Registration with the NSW Building Commission as a building surveyor — or you are close to it and want a firm that will support you the rest of the way
  • Experience assessing residential building work against the National Construction Code and development consent conditions
  • A current driver licence — the role is on the road between sites
  • Clear, practical communication with homeowners, builders and designers
